This year (2025) marks 200 years of emigration from Norway to America

On July 4, 1825, a group of 52 Norwegian women and men sailed with the sloop Restauration from Norway to North America. Since this first organized journey, some 900,000 people have followed suit, leaving their homes in search of a better life, in North America or elsewhere. Today, there are almost as many descendants of Norwegians in the United States and Canada as there are people living in Norway.

The website www.crossings200.no will be a gateway to find information about projects and events that are under the auspices of the members of the anniversary committee. This is also a resource page for those who want to immerse themselves in the topic.  We hope you will check out this website to stay abreast of the happenings to celebrate 200 years of Norwegian migration.
